On Januray 1, 2000, Regence BlueSheild moved to the current Medicare schedule for reimbursing physicians and other providers. Why? Because that’s what doctors asked us to do. We talked to thousands of doctors across Washington and the overwhelming majority wanted us to “get current” with the latest version of the Medicare schedule.
As a non-profit, community-based health plan representing 1.2 million Washingtonians, we’re very concerned about the cost of health care in our state. That’s why the new schedule is a fair solution: Most doctors will get an increase in fees as a result of the new schedule; this new schedule helps us hold the line on health care cost increases for the employers and members who purchase coverage from us.
Most doctors applaud our decision. The Washington Academy of Family Physicians sent us a letter indicating that they were ‘very pleased’ with the move to the new schedsule.
