Providence Centralia Hospital was recently designated as a Level IV trauma center by the Washington State Department of Health. The three-year designation means trauma patients are treated according to department guidelines.

“We can treat the majority of trauma patients we see,” says John Viglo, PCH Emergency Department manager. “In the event of critically-ill trauma cases, we stabilize the patients and transfer them to either Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia or Harborview in Seattle.”

The designation connects the hospital to a formal network statewide, enabling it to share information about state-of-the-art trauma practices. The hospital also participates in patient outcomes research and quality inspections by the Department of Health.
