At a meeting this afternoon, Port of Tacoma's commissioners approved a proposal raising commission members' monthly salaries from $500 to $1,800.
Port Communications Director Tara Mattina confirmed that the compensation increase, the first in over two decades, was given a unanimous OK by all five commission members.
The approved proposal, first put forward by Commissioner Richard Marzano, affects compensation for commission members elected in this fall's election and later, meaning that the five current commissioners wouldn't see a change in salary unless they are successfully re-elected.
Marzano, along with Connie Bacon and current commission president Don Meyer, are up for re-election in the fall. The remaining two, Claire Petrich and Don Johnson, are on terms that expire in December of 2015.
