The state Department of Ecology, U.S. Coast Guard, West Bay Marina and Nisqually Indian Tribe Marine Division are responding to a sunken 80-foot wooden-hulled vessel at West Bay Marina in Olympia.
The sinking was reported to Ecology at about 8:15 a.m. The Tribe’s unit has deployed hard oil-containment booms as well as absorbent materials. There is a light rainbow sheen in the area where the boat sank, mostly within the boom.
State, federal and tribal authorities have responders and investigators at the site to assess the situation and plan next steps.
Neither the amount of fuel on board nor is the cause of the sinking is known at this time.
