Local union leaders and the developers of the Point Ruston project signed a labor harmony agreement Friday. The agreement was signed by 16 unions of the Pierce County Building and Construction Trades Council.

“Our commitment to creating family-wage jobs is one of our company’s core values,” said Mike Cohen, principal of the Point Ruston project. “And we know that employing union labor will result in the highest standards of craftsmanship and quality for the people who will live and work in Point Ruston.”
In addition to the jobs already in place with the construction of the project’s first building on the waterfront and family homes on Stack Hill, new jobs will start as a new local improvement district bill. Signed into law last month by Gov. Christine Gregoire, the LID will allow the City of Tacoma and the Town of Ruston to begin the Ruston Way realignment later this summer.

The inter-local agreement will not only create jobs, but also result in major transportation improvements along the waterfront.
