Pierce County is receiving accolades for its FirstToSee project, a website and mobile app which allows the public and first responders to quickly share information in a disaster.
The Society of Technical Communications presented FirstToSee (www.firsttosee.org) with a merit award for excellence in graphic design, layout and technical writing. Judges also praised the mobile app version for its design and functionality. The team behind FirstToSee is being recognized alongside professionals from Northwest tech giants such as Microsoft, Amazon and Boeing.
“Aiding in emergencies is one of those basic responsibilities that we have to do well every time,” said Pierce County Executive Pat McCarthy. “That's why I'm so proud of our FirstToSee program, because it truly embodies the best of what citizens expect from county governance.”
The free mobile app allows users to send reports and photos from the scene of an emergency, and allows emergency professionals to filter through incoming reports and view them on a map. Several western Washington agencies successfully used FirstToSee during the Oso landslide earlier this year.
