Fragrance retailer Perfumania filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Saturday, announcing a plan to close 64 of its 226 stores — including its location at The Outlet Collection in Auburn.
The chain, which sells discounted perfumes from high end brands, has actively been working to mitigate its losses, having closed 103 stores over the past three years. Prior to bankruptcy, the company operated three locations in Washington; its stores in Tulalip and Kennewick will remain open.
Perfumania will further emphasize and invest in its online business moving forward, its Chapter 11 filing said.
“The Company has been working diligently to amend its business model, reduce its cost structure, improve supply chain efficiency, optimize marketing, reduce expenses and improve operating results long-term,” said Michael Katz, Perfumania president and CEO. “Today’s actions allow the Company to expedite all of these initiatives to create a stronger company with the financial resources to invest in areas that will foster our long-term growth.”
