Earlier today, a 50-year-old worker for the Orion Marine Group was airlifted from the Port of Olympia to Harborview Medical Center after being struck by a bucket used in the bay dredging process.

A spokesperson for the Port said that emergency response was immediate, with the fire department arriving quickly on the scene.

Upon evaluation, the worker was conscious and mobile. The decision for the airlift was for routine precautions.

Orion dredging project manager Stuart Moore, of the company's Tacoma office, said that an investigation into the cause of the accident will be launched.

“Worker safety is our first priority,” Moore said, “and we want to thank the fire department and the Port for doing such a great job in helping with the situation.”
