Orion Marine Contractors Inc. has been chosen to head a multi-million dollar dredge at the Port of Olympia.

The Tacoma-based company, which bid $3.87 million for the project, will target the shipping berths at the Port's marine terminal and the boat repair area at Swantown Marina.

Dredging, which will remove some 30,000 cubic yards of sediment around the shipping berths and 2,000 cubic yards at Swantown, will take place October through February. It's the first such effort at the Port in more than three decades.

Currently the Port is awaiting the last step of permit finalization by the Army Corp of Engineers before the dredging can begin.
