Opus Bank is bolstering its Pacific Northwest commercial business banking team with the addition of Grant Word as senior vice president and senior managing director of commercial business banking for the region.

Word, a 23-year veteran of the industry, joins Opus most recently from US Bank, where he served as market president and commercial bank leader in the South Sound region, predominantly Pierce, Thurston and South King counties. Now, Word will be responsible for expanding California-based Opus' commercial and corporate client base in the Pacific Northwest market.

“We are proud to have Grant join Opus to lead our Commercial Business Banking division in the Pacific Northwest,” said Stephen Gordon, founding chairman, CEO and president of Opus. “We anticipate that his years of experience and considerable success providing debt financing and treasury management solutions to mid-sized businesses in the region’s distinct market areas will have an immediate and positive impact, as Opus Bank continues to grow its loan origination volumes, deposit base, market presence, and overall relationship-based commercial banking franchise.”

Word's area experience will come in handy given Opus' calculated approach to expansion in the Northwest. The bank has a branch in Gig Harbor and just opened a downtown Tacoma location earlier this summer — a move described by Gordon in June as part of an initiative to expand “more deeply into the heart of the Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue-Puget Sound region.”
