The local business community celebrated when a new transport package in 2015 brought the long-held goal completion of SR 167 closer to reality. Curious about where things stand?
If so — and if you have free time this evening — the Washington State Department of Transportation is hosting an open house tonight to review and get public feedback on updated designs and next steps for completing the thoroughfare.
The project, once finished, will complete a missing link of South Sound infrastructure, connecting the Kent and Puyallup River Valleys more effectively to commercial areas in Seattle and Tacoma. The completed network will facilitate freight movement more efficiently toward the Port of Tacoma, as well as reducing traffic congestion in the local area.
The open house event runs from 5 to 8 p.m. at Fife High School, 5616 20th St. E. in Fife, with presentations at 5:30 and 6:30 p.m.
