The Olympia City Council has said a resounding, “No” to building along the Budd Inlet shoreline.

The decision was announced at the Council’s meeting this week, as part of future plans for the city’s Shoreline Master Program.

Specifically, the Council agreed to eliminate developer incentives for building on the Budd Inlet side of the isthmus and Percival Landing, and limit construction to a setback of at least 30 feet from the water.

That setback increases to 100 feet of the high-water mark along the west shore of East Bay.

In addition, the Council agreed that no restaurants with waterfront seating will be permitted.

The final draft of the plan will go to the Council again on Sept. 17, and likely be voted on Oct. 1.
