It’s graduation season — and that’s no different at Walmart, which will recognize the first graduating class of the newly opening Walmart Training Academy in Bonney Lake.

Walmart Training Academies are dedicated facilities where employees of the retail giant receive instruction on retail fundamentals. Specifically, the Academy will train the company’s front-line supervisors, helping department managers and hourly supervisors gain the skills and knowledge to run their specific departments.

The new Bonney Lake facility will serve stores in the Puget Sound region, from Bellingham to Pierce County. It is the third Walmart Training Academy in Washington, one of 200 expected to open across the country by the end of 2017. A graduation ceremony for the Academy's first class is co-scheduled with a grand opening for the location, set for tomorrow.

The Training Academy program has been a big investment for Walmart, which opened its 100th such facility in Edmond, Okla., in April. Since 2016, more than 52,000 associates have graduated, with more than 225,000 associates on track to complete training in 2017.
