MultiCare has created MultiCare Health Foundation Inland Northwest, a 501(c)3 organization, to help facilitate Rockwood Health System’s transition to not-for-profit status.

Tacoma-based MultiCare acquired Rockwood, based in Spokane, last summer. Now, all donor contributions to the newly established foundation will support patient care at Rockwood Health’s facilities: Deaconess Hospital, Rockwood Clinic and Valley Hospital.

“As a not-for-profit health system, we do not have shareholders,” says David O’Brien, senior vice president and chief executive for MultiCare Health System's East Region. “We are a community asset and we invest in the community to continuously improve our services. You can expect some upgrades to the existing facilities to modernize the care here and expansion of services to meet the health care needs in the region.”

Leading the foundation will be Carolyn Kadyk and Garman Lutz. Kadyk, who was formerly MultiCare’s director of volunteer services, will serve as executive director for MultiCare Health Foundation Inland Northwest. Lutz has been a health care leader in Spokane for more than 35 years. He served as CFO and CEO of Empire Health Services, the nonprofit health care system that previously owned Valley Hospital, Deaconess Hospital and Rockwood Clinic.
