A five-lane bowling alley in south Tacoma has found new life as a mixed martial arts facility with the upcoming grand opening of Ludusport Academy and Gym.
Ludusport, which takes its name from the Latin term “ludus” — “to play,” or “game,” “sport” or “training” — offers a 4,800-square-foot facility with a full-sized boxing ring, MMA cage, 2,000 square feet of mat space, and heavy bags.
The academy will offer instruction in recreational and competitive boxing, kickboxing, Thai boxing, submission wrestling, mixed martial arts and general fitness. According to a release from instructors Trevor Jackson and Drew Brokenshire, “think of Ludusport as a University where a student can study a cross-disciplinary curriculum that is mixed martial arts, specialize in just one field like boxing, or join the Competition Team fraternity.”
The facility is located at 5212 S. Tacoma Way, with a grand opening set for Jan. 13.
