A former military psychiatrist has been hired to lead the East Campus and Habilitative Mental Health center at Western State Hospital in Lakewood.
Dr. Brian Gilfeather is a graduate of Harvard College, with a medical degree from Boston University School of Medicine.
He led a combat stress team in Kuwait, where he also served as consultant to multi-national joint task force leaders on mental health issues. He also directly participated in the medical care of more than 4,000 service members onboard multiple Navy ships and units during his military career.
Before specializing in psychiatry, Dr. Gilfeather’s medical career included serving as a flight surgeon with NASA at the Kennedy Space Center and as head pathologist at the Groton Naval Hospital in Connecticut.
