Industry publication Marina Dock Age Magazine has named Narrows Marina in Tacoma the Marina of the Year.
The magazine collected data from approximately 1,000 marinas to determine a winner, with Narrows recognized in the Large Marinas category.
The award referenced the marina's transformation since the arrival of a new ownership structure in 2008, with the facility undergoing extensive rebuilds and increasing boater occupancy from 45 percent in 2008 to more than 90 percent this year.
Before the revitalization project, the marina employed eight full-time workers. Now, including all the businesses operating at Narrows, there are more than 170 employees during the summer months at the facility.
“I’m honored that the Marina has been recognized,” said owner and general manager Scott Wagner upon receiving the award at the International Marina and Boatyard Conference. “So many people — from our exceptional marina employees to our local building departments, consultants, and contractors — have worked tirelessly to make Narrows Marina what it is today. My partner, Gordon Rush, and I believe we are stewards of this property. It is our intent to see it left in a better condition than when we arrived. It’s exciting to see it turn it into a place where people want to be.”
