After one rental site released its findings about rent growth in the area, another site’s numbers are painting a rather contradictory picture.
Zumper analyzed active August listings across 19 cities in its latest Seattle metro report. While RENTCafe’s numbers, released yesterday, show sharply growing rents in Tacoma, Zumper’s data shows a drop in prices for one-bedroom apartments and a less stark increase in two-bedroom rent.
According to Zumper, one-bedroom rent in Tacoma in August is at $990, down 10 percent year-to-year. Two-bedroom apartments are renting for $1,290 a month, up 4.9 percent.
Zumper’s numbers show the highest rents in the South Sound in Kent ($1,180 for a one-bedroom, $1,430 for a two-bedroom) and Federal Way ($1,080 and $1,400). The fastest growing (year-over-year) rent for a one-bedroom apartment in the South Sound, per Zumper, is in University Place, where costs are up 3.7 percent.
