Metro Parks Tacoma has signed an agreement with Metronome Coffee to operate a cafe inside the new community center now under construction in East Tacoma.

Andrea Smith, president of the Metro Parks Tacoma Board of Commissioners, announced the arrangement on Saturday during the community center construction celebration on the campus of First Creek Middle School.

“Including a cafe in the community center is one of the amenities that local residents told us is really important to them,” Smith said. “Metronome will be a great addition to the neighborhood. It’s a creative business with coffee blends, teas and delicious food from local bakers, along with a passionate commitment to support the community. I am excited that Metro Parks is partnering with them.”

Owners Joshua and Gretchen Boyt have operated Metronome Coffee in Tacoma for more than six years. Now, Metronome is expanding its operations to the community center, where the cafe will be located just inside the building’s top-level entryway and adjacent to a state-of-the-art sound recording studio.

The café will also feature a walk-up window for customers to approach from the outside.

“Gretchen and I are big fans of the Eastside, so this opportunity to be at the heart of the new community center is really exciting,” said Joshua Boyt. “Our goal is to be as connected and rooted in the community as we can be. Coffee is just the medium.”
