Merrill Lynch has signed a 10-year lease for an entire floor of Wells Fargo Plaza. Don Wise, senior vice president of UNICO Properties, which owns and manages the high-rise office tower at 1201 Pacific Ave. in Tacoma, reports that Merrill Lynch will move in in October.

Merrill Lynch’s Tacoma office currently leases two floors in the Seafirst Plaza Building. Mike Neilsen, senior resident vice president at Merrill Lynch, said the need to consolidate operations on a single floor and create a more significant presence in Tacoma’s financial district were among the reasons for the decision to move to Wells Fargo Plaza.

“This is a great agreement for both of us,” said Wise. “Merrill Lynch acquires prime high-rise office space and UNICO gains a first-rate company that is an anchor tenant with us in Seattle.”

Merrill Lynch offices occupy a three-floor suite in a UNICO-managed high-rise in Seattle.

“One of our goals is to provide tenants that have multiple locations the advantage of working with one real estate company,” said Wise. “We have built long-term relationships with companies in Seattle and can provide their offices in other key cities a name they can trust and the same quality of management and service.”

UNICO specializes in property management, leasing, investment advice and brokerage, development and construction services in major urban markets and manages a portfolio of 3.6 million square feet of office and retail space in downtown Tacoma and Seattle. Merrill Lynch will occupy 14,000 square feet of space at Wells Fargo Plaza.

UNICO acquired Wells Fargo Plaza, a 25-story, 295,000-square-foot Class A office building, in August. Wells Fargo Plaza is the largest office building in Tacoma.
