Greater Olympia’s public buses are operated by some of the best drivers and mechanics in the whole state, judging by results from a competition in Everett last weekend.

Intercity Transit again was named Grand Champion in the 2017 State Public Transportation Roadeo, among 10 transit systems competing. This is the third consecutive overall win for IT.

Intercity Transit’s Maintenance Team took first out of seven teams. Operator (driver) Rob Wood parked in first place for the 35-foot coach category, with 621 of 700 possible points.

The agency also won the 2016 Safety Star Award presented at the conference by Washington State Transit Insurance Pool to honor transit agencies for dedication to best practices and consistently maintaining an impressive safety record.

“The roadeo showcases the skills and attention to safety that our diesel mechanics and bus drivers bring to our community and transit customers every single day,” says Ann Freeman-Manzanares, IT general manager.
