About 70 local restaurants are serving their communities, while serving their customers today.

Restaurants participating in “South Sound’s Dining out for life” have agreed to donate 25 percent of their food revenue from meals sold during the day-long event to organizations focused on HIV/AIDS prevention, as well as care and advocacy services in Pierce and Thurston counties.

“I continue to do it because I believe in it,” said Brett Armstrong, owner of Alfred’s Cafe.
Last year Alfred’s Cafe alone raised $691 during the event. Armstrong said the event organizers provide all of the advertising and marketing materials for the event. Plus, ambassadors are sent out to all the restaurants to encourage patrons to also donate to the cause.

Shawn Cherry, an ambassador with the Pierce County AIDS Foundation, said the organization will not know how successful the event was until after the dinner shift and even then they will have to wait to count up all the different donations.

The coordinating AIDS service organizations in Pierce and Thurston counties – Pierce County AIDS Foundation and United Communities AIDS Network – joined together for the event.
