A pop culture podcast produced by award-winning sports anchor reporter Ty Ray in his Stadium District apartment is up for a national award.

Ray’s Beats & Eats podcast, which is highly rated on iTunes and on a similar app for Android called Stitcher, is up against foodie giants such as Alton Brown, Andrew Zimmerman and the NPR food podcast for the best food and wine show at the 2013 Stitcher Awards in San Francisco this month.

Ray, who has worked in TV and radio since 1990, launched the podcast in October with co-host Nick Gelso of Scranton, Penn.

Their show features name celebrities, chefs, comedians and other pop culture figures, including Jeff Gutt, who starred on the TV show “X-Factor” last year.

The Stitcher Awards, in its second year, honor podcasts in a variety of categories from pop culture and politics to food and science.
