County Commissioners in Lewis County have decided, as part of their 2017 budget deliberations, that Senior Services Nutrition and Enrichment programs should not be operated by the government.
Citing a concern that county general funds applied to these programs might violate the state constitution, the board of commissioners decided to move them outside of government funding by June 30, 2017, while helping them to continue operating within the communities.
A news release today from Lewis County said all senior center properties will be transitioned to other operators, except the Twin Cities facility that is part of the county fairgrounds.
Administrators will be working with the Area Agency on Aging to identify what outside organizations may be interested in taking over the Seniors Nutrition program going forward. A series of public meetings will be held in coming weeks at each of Lewis County’s senior centers to discuss the options available.
