With less than a month before they are mandated, employers of all types within Tacoma city limits need to learn how the city’s Paid Sick Leave Ordinance will affect their operations starting Jan. 1, 2018.
As one of the first few cities in Washington to require employers to provide paid sick leave, Tacoma’s rules had to be modified late this year so they will comply with new statewide requirements that take effect next calendar year.
Public hearings concluded last week and city officials are finalizing the draft 2018 Workplace Notice now. Two information sessions are planned for next week, where workers and their employers or HR staff can learn more about the changes coming.
The information meetings will be:
- Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2–3:30 p.m., main downtown branch of Tacoma Public Library, Olympic Room
- Wednesday, Dec. 13, 6–7:30 p.m., Fern Hill Library meeting room, 765 S. 84th St.
More information and revised workplace posters are expected to be available of the City’s website soon.
Tacoma municipal staff also remind employers that the minimum wage in the city is rising to $12.00 per hour and a new workplace poster for this employee right is also available online.
