Tacoma’s TOP Food & Drug store located at 3130 S. 23rd Street will close its doors for good this weekend.

The Haggen grocery store announced the planned closure earlier this summer, shortly before Walmart opened on the other side of 23rd Street. It expects the final day to be Saturday, but that could change depending on how quickly its remaining inventory sells.

“The Walmart opening definitely played a part in the decision to close the store,” Clement Stevens, senior vice president of merchandising at Haggen said in an email last month. “Choosing to close this location is difficult knowing the impact it will have on our loyal customers and committed employees.”

Haggen said in July it was working with United Food and Commercial Workers Local 367 and Bakers Local 9 to place its 64 employees at other Haggen stores in the region.
