If you want a peek at what’s ahead for the Lacey downtown area, look at what’s happening at Lacey Village along 4540 Lacey Blvd. A remodel and expansion being built by developers Mark and Patrick Morris will be called Town Square South when it is completed by the end of this year.
Three approximately 30-year-old structures on 6.5 acres are being remodeled and expanded from 72,808 to 89,215 square feet, reports Lacey associate city planner Rick Walk. Ground work is just beginning on the project, which is to feature a new 15,000-square-foot Walgreens store among other retailers. The drug store is due to open by early 2001.
The building permit was issued prior to the adoption in July of Lacey’s new Vision 2000 design guidelines, Walk says. But it nevertheless is representative of some of the main themes of the vision plan, such as increased pedestrian access and more windows.
“It will be a good project to set the tone,” Walk says. “It will be a good example of the kinds of things we like to see downtown, such as a pedestrian plaza, having the buildings right up next to the street and more windows.”
