The two owners of Cabinets by Trivonna, a Lacey-based cabinet design company, were recently named the Seattle District Encore Entrepreneur of the Year for 2018 by the U.S. Small Business Administration.
Ross and Trivonna Irwin have been designing custom kitchens and cabinets for homeowners and contractors throughout the Pacific Northwest since 2006. Cabinets by Trivonna employs four full-time designers and contracts all its construction work out to other local businesses.
“The work they do in designing these cabinets and kitchens is amazing in itself,” said Kerrie Hurd, director of the SBA Seattle District. “But their commitment to keep the actual construction work local is also vital. The more success they have the more success the community has; that’s what makes a business community thrive.”
The Encore Entrepreneur award honors small business owners who started their companies after the age of 50 and who have created established businesses that remain operational in their communities for at least three years. The winners of the SBA award also show net worth and business growth, increase in employment numbers, and participation in community-based projects.
“We started the business when I was 59 and Trivanna was 55, at the start of a recession it turned out,” said Ross Irwin. “We made it through by not just putting our customers first, but by truly getting to know them and their families and designing a product truly meant to fit their needs.”
