The KPLU radio news team continues to receive professional recognition awards for work produced in 2012.
The station, which is licensed to Pacific Lutheran University and operates from news studios in Seattle. received five national awards from Public Radio News Directors Inc. at a banquet in Cleveland.
KPLU Business and Labor Reporter Ashley Gross received first place in News Feature category for her story about the growth of Amazon, the global giant that is expanding way beyond retailing.
Law and Justice Reporter Paula Wissel garnered first place in Spot News for a broadcast that aired the day after certification of voter-approved legalization of same-sex marriages in the state. This story also won top honors in the regional Excellence in Journalism competition sponsored by Society for Professional Journalists.
