James Hardie Building Products Inc. has announced a jobs initiative to add over 100 new employees for its expanded manufacturing facility in Tacoma.

The expansion will be a separate 400,000-square-foot facility adjacent to the existing plant, expected to be completed in spring of 2018. The Tacoma plant currently manufactures more than 120 varieties of interior and exterior fiber cement siding products.

With the plant already a major employer in the City of Destiny, the jobs initiative will only grow James Hardie’s already sizeable business footprint in the area. A media release from the company said that, once all hiring is complete for the expanded facility, staff is expected to grow to more than 240.

“James Hardie is a safety-focused company that honors and celebrates our employees in numerous ways,” said Brian Lee, Tacoma plant manager. “First and foremost, we offer highly competitive pay and benefits packages, and a commitment to grow our people through training and education.”

He noted that most of James Hardie’s management is “homegrown,” with over 85 percent coming up through the company.

Recruiting is currently active for operators, heavy industrial mechanics and electricians.
