With this year’s exhibition complete, organizers of Thurston County Fair are moving right into plans for the 2017 event.

Children attending the fair that ended Sunday cast ballots to select the mascot for next year’s festivities and selected Rudy Rabbit to be the iconic image. The voting utilized services of Thurston County Auditor Office, whose staff administered all “grown-up” balloting, too.

“The fair mascot election is a wonderful opportunity for kids not just to learn about voting, but to actually do it,” said Auditor Mary Hall. “Kids vote on real ballots, use real federal elections equipment, and even get an “I Voted” sticker.”

Fair Board President Peggy Jo Zimmerman said, “The kids’ vote for Rudy Rabbit is fantastic. She will be a great Fair mascot next year!”
