Helix Group, a Tumwater-based web and application design company, held a live demo of its newly developed emergency communication software today at Rainier Middle School in Rainier.

The software enables teachers and school administrators to communicate more efficiently with emergency responders. “And also communicate period,” explained Heather Weissinger, business coordinator at Helix.

Residing in an application on cell phones, tablets and PCs, the software is customized to enhance the school’s existing emergency plan.

“The middle school has cameras, a PA system and mechanical door locks. This software can communicate with those pieces of hardware to lockdown the schools,” Weissinger said.

Helix Group designed this product, which will be available for schools to purchase for an undetermined price this fall, after the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting last December.
