Born into a family of doctors and nurses, Yolanda Duralde began her own practice as a bi-lingual family practitioner in an Oregon clinic for migrant families. She came to Tacoma when her husband joined Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital and Dr. Duralde learned of the fledgling child abuse clinic, soon joining it as its second physician.
Today she continues as medical director of the Child Abuse Intervention Department, where the team approach has created a national model for Child Advocacy Unit. It links all the child abuse investigative and treatment partners, from law enforcement and prosecution through mental health and DSHS resources.
For her leadership in formation and evolution of this great community achievement, Dr. Yolanda Duralde will receive the Emergency Services Award on Tuesday, June 11.
The Health Care Champion recognition next week is part of a program sponsored by Cornerstone Financial Services and produced by Business Examiner Media Group. An evening event begins at 6 p.m. with a light dinner fare, followed by multi-media program recognizing four other award recipients as well.
