Today Tacoma Goodwill, in conjunction with other regional agency headquarters across the U.S., announced new initiatives to match local jobs with military veterans.
The initiatives will affect the 6,000 service members transitioning out of the military this year through Joint Base Lewis-McCord, 2,400 of whom will are expected to settle in the South Sound.
In addition, Goodwill announced that the agency has committed to assisting 3,000 women veterans in finding employment. Of JBLM veterans, 13 percent are female.
From JBLM, roughly 6,000 service members transition out of the military each year, more than 82 percent of whom are 21 to 30 years old and the majority of whom have served three to 10 years. Approximately 18 percent are retirees with more than two decades of service and older than 35.
Since 2011, Goodwill has hired nearly 1,800 men and women veterans and military family members, and has served nearly 100,000 more with job training and placement services.
