Today, Franciscan Health System opened its newest dialysis center in south Tacoma — the largest outpatient dialysis facility within its system.

Located at 5825 Tacoma Mall Blvd., the new center measures nearly 13,000 square feet and is equipped with 32 dialysis stations, as well as two home dialysis stations designed to prepare patients for dialysis care in their homes.

Other amenities at the center include heated, massaging dialysis treatment chairs and patient stations equipped with flat screen televisions and nurse call devices.

“This new center will bring state-of-art equipment, home treatment options, plentiful parking and very skilled and caring staff to dialysis patients in the South Tacoma Community,” said Marla Fredericks, regional director of nephrology for Franciscan Health System.

Franciscan's website originally listed the center's opening on Oct. 28, but media relations manager Scott Thompson said that it was pushed back a couple of days for extra preparation time. Nevertheless, the process has gone off without a hitch, he said; a VIP grand opening was held on Oct. 24, and today's open was a success.

“I think it's going well,” Thompson said. “We're all set to go and ready to accept new patients. Franciscan has had a pretty robust and extensive group of dialysis centers around the South Sound, and this new center is just the newest addition to that group. It brings convenience to folks who need dialysis treatments in south Tacoma. We're very excited to offer those treatments here in this area.”

The new center joins a roster of outpatient dialysis facilities in Gig Harbor, Puyallup and east Tacoma, as well as one at St. Joseph Medical Center.
