The Lacey City Council has announced a list of finalists for the city manager position. The selection follows a nationwide search to succeed Greg Cuoio, who retired last month after 24 years of service.

The finalists are Earl Mathers, county administrator for Gallatin County, Mont.; James Payne, a partner at Precision Organizing & Records Management, Rio Rancho, N.M.; Scott Spence, assistant city manager of Lacey; and Steve Worthington, former city manager of Fife. A total of 52 applicants responded, with 23 from Washington.

City Council will host a community reception for the finalists from 7 to 8 p.m. Aug. 4. Interviews will be conducted Aug. 5.
