The culmination of years of preparation is almost here for Federal Way, as the city’s brand new Performing Arts & Event Center is set to announce its first ever performance season.

The schedule, which will run from September 2017 to June 2018, will be announced on Tuesday, June 20 in the Federal Way Council Chambers. The full schedule of touring and resident artists will make up over 40 performance dates throughout the year.

Immediately following the announcement, season tickets will be on sale to the public. The PAEC’s website, newly redone for the facility’s opening, goes live to the public at noon.

For the first season, Theresa Yvonne, executive director of the PAEC, has put together a combination of known quantities like Branford Marsalis and Roseanne Cash, as well as lesser known acts such as the Cambodian Circus, Celtic Nights, and a Korean dance troupe.

She hopes that the PAEC will become a community hub.

“I want all of those different cultures to feel welcome and hope that this really becomes the community’s home base,” she says. “Aside from the performances, people will also be creating memories here through events like weddings and quinceaneras.”

The PAEC will have also a comprehensive arts education program that offers matinees to schools along with study guides and a curriculum that meets state standards. “These won’t just be field trips,” says Yvonne.
