Washington Policy Center is bringing together lawmakers and industry leaders in Lacey tomorrow for a Washington State Farm Hall, the second of three events designed to keep the state’s agriculture interests in the forefront of policy.
“Washington’s farm families and food processors provide our state with a huge economic benefit and at the same time, provide us all with food security,” explained WPC Agriculture Policy Research Director Madilynne Clark. “These Farm Halls provide us with a terrific opportunity to make sure the policies we’re adopting keep Ag a top priority for years to come.”
Set for noon at the Washington State Farm Bureau offices at 975 Carpenter Road, the event will feature over a dozen panelists. Those include state Sen. John Braun, R- Centralia; state Reps. Vincent Buys, R-Lynden, Luanne Van Werven, R-Lynden, Mike Chapman, D-Port Angeles, and J.T. Wilcox, R, Roy; Jack Field, Washington State Cattle Feeders Association; Dan Wood, Washington State Dairy Federation; Matt Harris, Washington State Potato Commission; Jon Devaney, Washington State Tree Fruit Association; Lisa Bishop, Sookum Shellfish; Heather Hansen, Washington Friends of Farm & Forests; Henry Bierlink, Washington Red Raspberry Commission; Michelle Hennings, Wash. Assoc. of Wheat Growers; and Tom Davis, Washington State Farm Bureau.
WPC, a nonprofit “free market think tank,” has assumed the major sponsoring role for this year’s Farm Hall events, the continuation of a program started in 2015 by Sens. Sharon Brown and Judy Warnick. Similar Farm Hall events are set for Pasco and Spokane on Nov. 29.
