Downtown on the Go, which advocates for transportation management in downtown Tacoma, recognized six downtown businesses and two individuals for their work in sustainable transportation and commute options within the city at today's Tacoma-Pierce County Chamber Luncheon.

The Downtown On the Go Transportation Innovator Awards are handed out annually by the organization to celebrate work toward the goal of reducing the number of single occupancy vehicles by 11 percent by 2015.

Zipcar, which has offered car-sharing services in downtown Tacoma for just over a year, received the Big Step/Bold Program award. 

Marketing and branding firm Rusty George Creative took home the Biking Strong award for its promotion of biking to work and Bike Month 2013. 

Karen Bunger received the Advocacy Award for promoting healthy commute options and dedicating time and effort to Downtown on the Go's mission.

South Sound American Heart Association nabbed the Walk Tacoma award for partnership in encouraging healthy transportation options through Walk Tacoma.

Vue 25, Broadway Center for the Performing Arts and Julie Swenson of Evergreen Home Loans were honored with Live Downtown Awards for encouraging downtown employees to live downtown.

And Propel Insurance's Patti Sutton was recognized with the Board Member Extraordinaire award for more than four years of service and leadership toward Downtown on the Go's mission.
