Sierra Pacific Industries, a forest products company based in Anderson, Calif., announced that it will immediately begin construction of a sawmill in Frederickson that was announced earlier this year.
Permits have already been issued to prepare the site, said Lisa Perry, SPI community relations manager. Clearing and grading should start within the next couple of weeks and, Perry said, “the plan is to begin construction … in spring 2015, with lumber operations starting in 2016.” The initial mill project is estimated to bring 150 new jobs to the area.
In addition, SPI will be developing an additional six build-ready industrial lots.
“Once these lots are fully developed, this property will house employers creating a multitude of jobs in the area, fulfilling the vision of Pierce County officials when the land was zoned in the 1990s,” Perry said.
SPI purchased the $3.2 million lot from the Port of Tacoma back in June, according to an earlier report from the Daily Biz Briefs.
