Comcast has launched a new Internet service delivering 1 Gigabit-per-second speed to customers in several parts of the South Sound.

The telecommunications giant activated speed upgrades to Pierce County and most of King County last year, but now, more than 10 counties and 60 communities across both urban and rural Washington will have access to the higher speeds. That includes Thurston, Kitsap, Lewis, Mason, Grays Harbor and Pacific Counties.

Comcast invested more than $64 million on its Washington infrastructure to implement a new technology that delivers the higher speed over existing communications lines.
