Last night Tacoma’s City Council unanimously approved more rate hikes for city-owned Click Cable TV network subscribers.
As of August 1, monthly bills will increase up to 10 percent, based on service type. It's the fifth time Click has hiked rates since 2010.
This time, the hikes amount to $1.49 per month more for basic “broadcast” service, up to $4.01 for “standard” service outside of Tacoma. Late payment fees also increase $1 to $6.99.
Officials commented that the adopted rate changes are part of Tacoma Public Utilities’ ongoing plan to help Click keep pace with rising programming expenses imposed on the cable provider by broadcasters.
Programming costs, meaning local and national broadcaster per-subscriber licensing fees, create roughly 60 percent of Click’s cable costs.
