South Sound fans of Sonic Drive-In’s fast food will soon have a new, long-awaited option as the eatery’s Kent location has been confirmed by the City.
“I am happy to report they have picked up their permits and they are under construction for both a Sonic Drive-In and a Starbucks coffee,” Ben Wolters, city economic and community development director, said of the proposed site on the corner of Kent-Kangley Road and 116th Ave. SE. Wolters spoke about the long-planned development at Kent’s Jan. 2 City Council meeting.
The debut of the drive-in was first reported in spring 2016, but development has been plagued by delays caused by financing. Originally announced to open in summer of 2017, Wolters said the City now anticipates an opening by spring of this year.
