Central Co-op has announced it has signed a lease for its new Tacoma store, bringing a grocery store back to Tacoma’s West End Neighborhood at North Pearl and 46th Street.
The new store will be located at 4502 North Pearl Street, currently a Bargain World and originally home to a grocery store. The co-op, according to a release, expects renovations of the space to be complete by the end of the year. Since the closure of the previous Tacoma store on July 18, 2016, the Co-op had been in search of a new brick-and-mortar space.
“Our new location in Tacoma will allow us to bring a full grocery experience, with a focus on local, organic products, great wages and strong co-op values to our community and neighbors,” CEO Garland McQueen said. “The site has ample parking and enough space for us to have a large fresh deli and a community room, features our members have told us are especially desired.”
“We are excited to plant our roots in the West End – especially so close to the ferry landing and the landmark of Point Defiance Park,” he adds. “We are looking forward to returning service to our existing South Sound members and particularly excited to get to know our new neighbors.”
The co-op expects to be hiring for at least 35 positions for the store’s opening.
