DaVita Kidney Care Center is on a mission to improve recycling in its offices. The Tacoma-based treatment center is providing its employees with TerraCycle’s Kitchen Separation Zero Waste Boxes to make recycling traditionally non-recyclable items easier.
A Green Team was instituted at DaVita Kidney Care to find ways to help its office operate more sustainably, and to institute programs to reach that goal. Items like coffee and tea accessories, cleaning supplies, and plastic wrapping are all used in offices regularly but are not always easy to recycle. Kitchen Separation Boxes solve that problem.
“I had the ambition to recycle more items that can’t be recycled through our city recycling program; as an office building of almost 600 teammates, we create quite a footprint,” said Purchasing Coordinator at DaVita Kidney Care Nicole Cullens. “The Kitchen Separation box is consistent with our ‘One For All’ mentality. It gives our teammates the chance to be responsible and aware of their effect on the planet.”
TerraCycle’s Kitchen Separation Zero Waste Boxes are located on every floor near the compost, recycling, and garbage. Once they’re full, the boxes are sent to TerraCycle, where they are separated and recycled.
In addition to the TerraCycle Zero Waste boxes, DaVita’s Green Team replaced disposable paper and plastic tableware with reusable dishes and is piloting a program through the City of Tacoma to recycle paper towels.
