Last week, nonprofit Child Care Aware of Washington announced Deeann Burtch Puffert as its new CEO — a move made in tandem with the Tacoma-based organization’s expansion of services that help prepare children for success across the state.
Puffert has spent the last 34 years focused on such challenges surrounding early childhood education as affordability, accessibility, and quality. For the last decade, she has served as CEO of Child Care Resources, working on further racial equity, providing services to families experiencing homelessness, and supporting childcare providers.
“Deeann’s many years of hands-on experience in the early childhood education system, from stepping into a classroom to directing a resource organization, makes her the perfect person to take on the mantle of organizational leadership for (Child Care Aware of Washington),” Lois Martin, Child Care Aware of Washington Board of Trustees co-chair, said in a statement. “She drives organizational performance that results in outcomes for children.”
Puffert, who was named CEO by the organization’s Board of Trustees, said she “look(s) forward to growing and developing new relationships and partnerships that will continue to move childcare and informal caregiving into full partnership within the early learning landscape.”
Puffert will begin her role with the nonprofit on Dec. 2.
