The City of Tacoma is accepting applications for its free street tree giveaway program, Grit City Trees, from now until Sep. 10. The program provides free trees to homeowners who want to plant trees in the right-of-way, an area usually between the sidewalk and the street.

Homeowners are encouraged to collaborate with their neighbors and apply as a group, but individual applications are accepted as well.

Trees will be ready for pickup or delivery in October. Available species include Alaskan cedar, red oak, Kentucky coffeetree, and Austrian pine.

Interested parties can apply here and, if awarded a tree, all participating property owners must sign a tree care agreement.
