Alaska Airlines recently announced its plans to build a 128,000-square-foot office building on a 6.8-acre site near Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, across the street from the company’s corporate headquarters.
The new building will provide office space for approximately 600 Alaska employees working in technology, system operations control, and other fields. Construction is scheduled to begin by July 2018 and is expected to be finished by the beginning of 2020.
“In the last five years alone, the number of Alaska Air Group employees has grown by 76 percent. As we continue to grow our workforce in our hometown, this new facility will bring together frontline employees and management and improve collaboration,” said Brad Tilden, Alaska Airlines CEO. “The new building, which we are calling the ‘Hub,’ will be a warm, welcoming facility for all Alaska employees and guests.”
In addition to providing office space for employees, the building will also be home to the uniform fit center and the company store. Plans for the site include walking paths, a pedestrian crossing across International Boulevard, and other features that will create a campus-like environment. The building itself was designed by NBBJ, an architecture firm with offices in Seattle.
