The Tacoma City Council has three positions opening on its Planning Commission. Planning Commission members are responsible for implementing and updating the One Tacoma: Comprehensive Plan for creating land use and development regulations and operations.
The positions that need to be filled are for District Nos. 2, 3, and 5. The District Map outlining each area is available here. Individuals applying for positions must be residents of Tacoma and must live in the district they’re hoping to represent. All Planning Commission members serve three-year terms. There are nine total members on the commission.
The Planning Commission reviews a variety of planning issues, including:
- Area-wide zoning reclassifications;
- Interim zoning;
- Pre-annexation planning;
- Historic district designation;
- Urban design; and
- Transportation and capital facilities programs.
Commission meetings are held twice monthly, on the first and third Wednesdays of each month at 5 p.m. For more on the commission, go to their website.
