From Apr. 19-21, UW Tacoma will host the third annual Pacific Northwest Regional Student Veteran Conference.  The event will kick off with a community work party at the Giving Garden, for which the Travis Manion Foundation donated funds. The work party will be followed by a mixer at Seven Seas Brewery.

Workshops will be available to student veterans in attendance on a variety of subjects including music and art therapy, transitioning from higher education to the private sector, and tips for success in STEM and entrepreneurship. Representatives will be present from FourBlock, Vetted and Minority Veterans of America to speak with students and answer questions.

Three keynote speakers will present at the event: Matt Kress, senior manager of veteran and military affairs; Jared Lyon, the president and CEO of Student Veterans; and Retired Master Sergeant and Medal of Honor recipient Leroy Petry.

“This is really a great opportunity to network, to talk with professionals, even interact with student vets,” Veteran and Military Resource Center Associate Director Rosalynn Johnson said. “We wanted to make sure there would be something for everyone, whether you were interested in leadership or wanted to get ideas about how to better express yourself.”

Johnson is hopeful that the location and its proximity to bases and large veteran populations will translate into high attendance. For more information about the event, and to purchase tickets, visit the event page.
